Let's Get to know me!
I am the Canada Research Chair in Queer, Community, and Diversity Education and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. I am also the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal for the Study of Adult Education from 2019-2021. I was the 2018-2019 President of the Canadian Association for the Study of Adult Education.
I hold a Honours Bachelor of Arts (Drama-in-Education) and Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor, a Masters of Education (International/Global Education) from the University of Alberta, a Graduate Certificate (Higher Education Online Pedagogy) from the University of Illinois-Springfield, and a Doctorate of Philosophy (Education) from York University.
My research focuses on educational interventions that lead to social, organizational, and systemic changes that embrace two-spirit, trans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer and other diverse identities and knowledge.
I have raised over $1,000,000 in research funds as a Principal Investigator and I have extensive experience leading local and international research projects.
I have held visiting scholar appointments at the University of Pristina in Mitrovica (Kosovo) and the Faber Residency for Arts, Sciences, and Humanities (Catalonia).
I have published five books, two journal special issues, and over 50 academic papers in the areas of educational administration and adult education.
Prior to joining academe, I was a middle years school teacher in Canada, Japan (Japanese Exchange Teaching Program), and the United Kingdom, and I worked in community and social development in Canada and Kosovo, plus consulted on several international development projects. I also sat on the Board of Directors for Queer Peace International and the Lambda Scholarship Foundation.
